PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence has approved nearly $390,000 in severance packages to former city employees.
WPRI-TV reports records dating back to 2015 show 26 former employees received at least $389,000 in payouts, including 11 at-will workers.
The payments range from $1,500 to a former parking enforcement officer to up to $138,000 for longtime human resources director Sybil Bailey.
City treasurer James Lombardi says he was unaware of many of the severance agreements.
City solicitor Jeffrey Dana says an ordinance approved in July requires legislative approval of agreements worth more than $10,000.
Bailey was often required to approve many of the severance agreements as human resources director.
She has declined to comment.
An aide for Mayor Jorge Elorza’s administration has also declined to comment.
