GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - A professor at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro says school officials don’t seem supportive of her plan to work full-time while running for state school superintendent.
Education professor Jen Mangrum tells the News & Record of Greensboro that the school was amenable when she ran for a state Senate seat while working full-time. This time, however, she says the school has recommended that she take an unpaid leave of absence, which Mangrum says she can’t afford.
UNCG said Wednesday that it’s working with Mangrum to accommodate both her job duties and her upcoming campaign for the 2020 election for state superintendent of public instruction.
A Board of Trustees committee is scheduled to meet Friday to consider Mangrum’s petition to seek state office while working at UNCG.
