WESTBURY, N.Y. (AP) - The Metropolitan Transportation Agency has identified two of three people killed in the car that was struck by two commuter trains on Long Island.
MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan said Thursday that 36-year-old Miguel Angel Jimenez Luna and 28-year-old Saul Martinez Caravantes, both of Westbury, were killed. He said the third person’s identity won’t be available for another week to 10 days.
Employees told Newsday the victims worked at a grocery store several blocks from the crash site in Westbury.
Police say their vehicle was trying to go around a railroad gate while fleeing the scene of an earlier car accident when it was struck Tuesday night. One of the trains was going at “full speed” when it crashed.
Eight people on the train were injured, three of them seriously.
