MILTON, Vt. (AP) - Thirty Vermont residents are now out of a job after their company in Milton shut down the facility this week.
Employees at Bertek Label & Card Solutions in Milton were called into a meeting Monday afternoon and they were given a letter from the president of their parent company - informing them Monday was their last day of work. WCAX-TV reports now-former employee Abigail Laplant says a lot of the workers are hurt and upset by the move.
Vermont Department of Labor General Counsel Dirk Anderson says a company may not have been legally required to give advance notice before closing. He recommends the workers file for unemployment insurance, and notes the statewide unemployment rate is at an all-time low.
Bertek didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
