WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia teacher has filed a lawsuit over a closed meeting held by the Ohio County Board of Education.
News outlets report Ohio County Education Association President Jennifer Craig says board members went into executive session improperly on Feb. 19 to discuss the teachers’ strike. Under West Virginia law, the board may meet privately to discuss such things as legal or personnel matters.
Teachers went on strike for two days to oppose portions of a broad-based education bill that was eventually tabled by state lawmakers.
Craig asked the court to stop another private meeting planned on Monday, but a judge declined. News outlets report the school board met but had almost no discussion about the strike.
The Ohio County Board of Education declined to comment on the pending litigation.
