PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say a man employed by the city has been arrested in a series of sexual assaults in south Philadelphia.

Police said Tuesday that 37-year-old Safien (Sah-FEEN’) Williams is charged in four of the cases dating back to May and is under investigation in connection with others.

Officials said Williams was hired as an unskilled laborer by the city Streets Department in July but there’s no evidence his employment status was related to the cases.

Investigators said the perpetrator often used a bicycle and displayed a knife in almost every case.

Williams is charged with rape, sexual assault, aggravated assault, and robbery. A listed number for him couldn’t be found Tuesday and it’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
