President Trump said Monday that Democrats’ position on abortion is so extreme that they support “executing babies after birth.”
In a series of tweet, Mr. Trump responded to Democrats filibustering a vote Monday on legislation that would require doctors to care for a newborn baby that survived an abortion.
“Senate Democrats just voted against legislation to prevent the killing of newborn infant children,” he tweeted. “The Democrat position on abortion is now so extreme that they don’t mind executing babies AFTER birth.”
Mr. Trump added, “This will be remembered as one of the most shocking votes in the history of Congress. If there is one thing we should all agree on, it’s protecting the lives of innocent babies.”
The GOP-led Senate only mustered 53 votes — seven shy of the 60 needed to overcome the Democratic filibuster. Three Democrats crossed the aisle to back the bill, while three Republicans missed the vote.
