MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey township is seeking to improve the commuting experience into New York City with the help of a newly-formed council.

The mayor’s office in Monroe Township announced last week that it formed a Commuter Council, with the goal of improving private bus service to and from Jersey City and New York City. NJ.com reports the township had previously held two public forums about commuting in the past year.

Commuters in Monroe currently depend on a suburban bus service for transit. Township business administrator Alan Weinberg says residents have previously expressed concerns about service reliability and ticketing costs.

Weinberg says he is looking forward to helping residents through the venue of the new council, which is preparing for a first meeting this week.
