DETROIT (AP) - High winds that toppled trees and tree branches onto power lines have left about 36,000 homes and businesses without power across Michigan.
DTE Energy reported that its crews were working to restore power to about 17,000 customers who remained without power as of 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Consumers Energy says its crews were working Monday afternoon to restore power to about 19,000 customers.
The two utilities reported about 315,000 customers lost power when high winds swept the region Sunday and early Monday.
The outages came after winds gusted to more than 60 mph and produced blowing snow as a strong low-pressure system pushed across the northern Great Lakes, creating blizzard conditions in the Upper Peninsula.
