OPINION:
“Empire” actor Jussie Smollett’s false charge of racism is perfectly understandable in economic terms (“Actor Jussie Smollett charged with filing false police report in what police call ’publicity stunt,’” web, Feb. 21).
When the demand for racist incidents by certain parties (or a political party) exceeds the available supply, then counterfeit incidents must be created. Real racial incidents become suspect, thus requiring ever more false reports to make up for the devaluation of the racist charge.
This is, in other words, race inflation.
