FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) _ Community Health Systems Inc. (CYH) on Wednesday reported a loss of $328 million in its fourth quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Franklin, Tennessee-based company said it had a loss of $2.91. Losses, adjusted for asset impairment costs and pretax expenses, came to 42 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 58 cents per share.
The operator of accute care hospitals posted revenue of $3.45 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.39 billion.
For the year, the company reported that its loss narrowed to $788 million, or $6.99 per share. Revenue was reported as $14.16 billion.
In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, the company’s shares hit $4.08. A year ago, they were trading at $5.87.
