Lawmaker hurt in crash with a moose

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A North Dakota legislator is back at work just days after he was injured when his minivan crashed into a moose, killing it.

Rep. Marvin Nelson, from Rolla, had just picked up his granddaughters in Jamestown and was heading home on Highway 281 Friday night when he spotted a moose in a ditch near Rocklake. Nelson says a moment later a second moose appeared in the middle of the road and he couldn’t avoid hitting it. Part of the moose crashed through the windshield, spraying glass in Nelson’s face. His granddaughters, ages 3 and 5, were safely tucked in their car seats in the back and weren’t hurt.

Nelson tells The Bismarck Tribune he had glass in his eyes and couldn’t call 911, but soon another motorist came by and called for help.
