CHINO, Calif. (AP) - Officials say an off-duty San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy was killed in a traffic collision, and the driver of the other car was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports Deputy Nicholas O’Loughlin died at the scene of the crash early Sunday in Chino.

O’Loughlin’s Chevy Silverado was struck by a BMW SUV driven by Yijie Mao. Chino police suspect the 26-year-old was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney.

The newspaper says O’Loughlin joined the sheriff’s department in 2017 and was assigned to the West Valley Detention Center.
