BOSTON (AP) - The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has scheduled several public meetings to discuss proposed fare hikes.
Under the proposal , public transit riders in the Boston area would pay on average 6.3 percent more to ride MBTA buses, subways and trains. CharlieCard holders would see local bus fares increase 10 cents to $1.80, while subway fares would rise 15 cents to $2.40.
If approved by the T’s Fiscal and Management Control Board, the new fares would take effect July 1.
The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday in Chelsea; Wednesday in Quincy; and Thursday in Woburn.
More meetings are scheduled for South Boston on Feb. 25; Cambridge on Feb. 26; the state Transportation Building in Boston on Feb. 27 and March 7; Watertown on March 4; and Worcester on March 6.
