CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming lawmakers have advanced a proposed property tax break on equipment used in energy production.
The Senate Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee voted 4-1 Friday to move the bill to the full Senate for debate. The bill earlier cleared the House 41-18.
The proposal would exempt energy-production equipment from property tax during the time it’s stored before installation.
One example would be wind turbine equipment stored on site while a wind farm is being built. Equipment destined for facilities in the coal, oil, gas, solar and uranium industries could also be exempted.
Republican Sen. Hank Coe, of Cody, says he supports the bill because it could boost Wyoming’s energy industry.
Democratic Sen. Chris Rothfuss, of Laramie, voted against it out of concern it could cost the state money.
