EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut town has agreed to settle two lawsuits that alleged a student with behavioral problems sexually assaulted two other students on separate occasions on a school bus.

The Hartford Courant reports that the East Hartford Town Council voted unanimously Feb. 5 to settle the suits for a total of $100,000.

Both victims were special education students at East Hartford Middle School, and their lawsuits say both assaults happened in 2015.

The complaints say the town and board of education failed to provide safe transportation and failed to monitor the attacker who had “a history of behavior issues.”

The lawsuits say officials should have known that the victims were “extremely susceptible to manipulation” because of their disabilities.

Both victims suffered emotional distress and have undergone psychological treatment.
