FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) - A fast-moving fire that roared through a northern New Jersey apartment building has injured two firefighters and left dozens of people homeless.

Authorities say the fire at the Linwood Park Cooperative complex in Fort Lee started around 4 p.m. Thursday in the basement of one of its buildings. The fire then quickly spread through the five-story structure and burned for several hours until it was brought under control.

The fire apparently destroyed the three upper floors of the building and severely damaged the other two. No residents were hurt, but two firefighters suffered minor undisclosed injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The displaced residents were receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
