SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. (AP) - A witness says he saw an airplane do a tight, low U-turn before it crashed in a Tennessee lake in January, killing the pilot and a passenger.
According to a National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report, the witness said he initially thought the plane was doing aerobatics about two or three treetop lengths above Lake Chickamaugua. The four-seat, single-engine plane spiraled straight down into the lake, and the witness called emergency services and helped responders find the wreckage.
Family members identified the deceased as 67-year-old commercial pilot Frank Davey and 55-year-old Lynda Marinello.
The report says the airframe was recovered, but not the engine and propeller.
It says footage from a GoPro on the right horizontal stabilizer will be examined.
