Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is reportedly gearing up to spend $500 million of his own money to derail President Trump’s re-election bid.
Two Democratic operatives knowledgeable of the plans told Politico the money would either go towards Mr. Bloomberg’s own presidential bid — should he decide to run — or fuel the campaign of whoever becomes the Democratic nominee.
“That’ll get us through the first few months,” Kevin Sheekey, a top Bloomberg adviser, told Politico.
“Mike spent $100 million in his last New York City election,” Mr. Sheekey said. “And you can do the math as you think more broadly but New York City is 3 percent of the national population. I’m not suggesting it’s straight math. But I’m suggesting that when Mike Bloomberg is committed to making a difference and seeing something though, generally speaking he’s pretty unabashed in doing so.”
In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Mr. Bloomberg said he would come to a decision by the end of February.
