BLOWING ROCK, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man who went missing during a hike has been found after nearly 24 hours.

Citing a news release from Blowing Rock Fire & Rescue, news outlets report that 67-year-old Frank Sanady entered the China Creek Trail at around noon Sunday. When he didn’t return by the early evening, a search and recovery operation was launched. He was found at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Rescuers say Sanady was fatigued but uninjured. He couldn’t be evacuated by helicopter, so he wasn’t evacuated form the trail until after 5 p.m.

The China Creek Trail runs through the Pisgah National Forest and U.S. National Park Service land in northwestern North Carolina.

Sanady’s wife Mary Ann Overcash called his rescue a “miracle” and warned people not to hike alone.
