TAMARAC, Fla. (AP) - Officials say a Florida school bus driver managed to get 16 elementary students safely off a bus after the engine caught fire.
News outlets report that the front end of the Broward County Public Schools bus became engulfed in flames, prompting the driver to quickly pull over Thursday afternoon.
Tamarac Fire Rescue spokesman Van Schoen says the driver managed to evacuate all the Nova Blanche Elementary School students with no injuries. Crews were able to put out the flames, but the vehicle has been declared a total loss.
A second bus came to take the children home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
