OPINION:
Socialism’s core goals fall into three broad streams: 1) Most economic activity is brought under government control; individual wealth creation and goals, innovation, freedom of choice and free-market forces are gone (think Medicare for All and the Green New Deal); 2) Income is “redistributed” (i.e., “excess” wealth is taken from the “rich” and spread around); and 3) Private property and the middle class are abolished.
Socialists abhor our First and Second Amendment rights and the guarantees of freedom the framers of the U.S. Constitution left for us. We have seen their speech codes on college campuses. We have seen them calling for banning firearms and high-capacity magazines. We have seen them institute ever-more restrictive regulations and laws.
These amendments terrify socialists. A free press, free speech and an armed citizenry are the core of resistance to socialism. The Declaration of Independence tells us we have the power, if not the duty, to stop any attempted tyrannical takeover of our government.
Socialists fear our freedom and individual liberty. We must keep them at bay at all costs and defeat them in 2020 and every subsequent election.
