Maryland Democrats have picked a new party leader.
The Baltimore Sun reports that members of the Maryland Democratic State Central Committee voted overwhelmingly Saturday to elect Yvette Lewis to serve as party chairwoman through 2022.
Lewis previously served in the same role from 2011 to 2015. She replaces Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, the widow of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings. Rockeymoore Cummings resigned as party leader to run for congress.
Lewis said she would focus on uniting the party ahead of next year’s presidential contest and the 2022 gubernatorial election.
