Why the rush for impeachment (“Dems scrambling for impeachment vote by Christmas: ’We must move swiftly’” Web, Dec. 4) ? Is the weight of President Trump’s “high crimes” about to sink the republic? Or are Democrats beginning to comprehend that the impeachment circus, directed by manifestly partisan politicians, is a self-made trap?

Since conviction of an impeached Donald Trump in the Senate will not happen given the vote calculus, why are Democrats walking the flop-sweat walk? Impeachment language in the Constitution does not include rude-and-crude tweets, yet the president’s intemperate style seems to be the only evidence that almost all Americans can agree on. The entire clown show is a made-for-TV extravaganza directed by Democrats to rile their base in next year’s election. Their defense of this strictly partisan ruction is as flimsy as the evidence they have adduced. Polling data reveal that the needle in favor of impeachment has not moved; thus the flop sweat and the rush.

Having cried impeachment since inauguration, Democrats cannot now stop the express they started. After all, they are swamp dwellers.
