LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - A 15-year-old has been charged with murder in a weekend shooting death in a Virginia city, police said.
The Lynchburg Police Department said on Sunday that the male juvenile was arrested for the homicide of Darius Saunders Jr., 31, of Lynchburg. T he department said later that the unidentified youth was charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm while committing a felony. The investigation was ongoing.
Lynchburg police said officers responding to a call Saturday evening found the teenager with a gunshot wound to his arm.
With the help of a K-9, officers later found Saunders with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, the news release said.
The 15-year-old also was served at his arrest with an outstanding juvenile detention order, police said.
