SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Sioux City man has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide while driving recklessly in the June death of a bicyclist.

Edy Guevara, 37, entered the plea Friday in Woodbury County District Court, the Sioux City Journal reported. Guevara also pleaded not guilty to operating while intoxicated.

Guevara had alcohol and marijuana in his system on June 13 when the vehicle he was driving hit Charles Fluharty, 64, of Sioux City, authorities said. Police said Guevara later told officers he was texting on his cellphone when he hit Fluharty.

Fluharty suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, fractured rib and vertebra and a collapsed lung, officials said. He died on June 20 after he was removed from life support.
