HARTLY, Del. (AP) - A Delaware man is facing multiple charges after police say he instigated a fight with a group of people during which he brandished a gun and an ax.

Delaware State Police said in a news release Sunday that Michael J. Rhinehardt of Marydel is charged with reckless endangering, aggravated menacing and a weapons charge.

The news release says officers responded to a residence in Hartly on Saturday afternoon for a reported shooting incident.

Police say Rhinehardt was among a group of friends and roommates when he “initiated an altercation,” then grabbed a gun, pointed it at others and fired multiple shots. They say he later obtained an ax and swung it at two victims.

Police say Rhinehardt appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during the incident, which did not injure anyone else.

Rhinehardt was arraigned and booked in lieu of an $80,000 bond. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.
