SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) - A crash involving a wrong-way driver claimed two lives on Long Island, police said Wednesday.

The collision occurred around 10 p.m. Tuesday on the Sunrise Highway in Southampton.

A Mercedes-Benz was traveling east in the westbound lanes when the driver crashed head-on into a Toyota Camry, police said. The driver of the Camry, identified as 28-year-old Michelle Navas of Hicksville, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WABC.



The name of the other driver, who died at a hospital, was not immediately made public.

Westbound lanes in the area were closed for more than eight hours as a result of the crash.
