FARMINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - A ferocious overnight house fire killed a woman and her 12-year-old grandson early Tuesday in western New York, authorities said.
Mary Button, 84, and her grandson Conrad Button died in a fire that was reported at around 2:45 a.m., Ontario County Sheriff Kevin Henderson told the Democrat & Chronicle.
Firefighters initially could not enter the home because the flames were too intense, according to Assistant Fire Chief John Weidenborner.
Bernard Button had tried to locate his mother and nephew but was forced to flee.
The two-story house was destroyed, authorities said. Several parked vehicles also caught fire.
The cause was under investigation.
