MAGNA, Utah (AP) - A man has died in a house fire in Magna, authorities said Monday.

United Fire Authority says a police officer pulled the man, who was wheelchair bound, from the burning home shortly after 4 a.m. But he was pronounced dead at the scene, said Battalion Chief Brian Anderton.

Officials believe the man suffered heavy smoke inhalation.

Another man and a woman were also in the home. They were transported to a hospital, authorities said. The nature of their injuries and their conditions were not immediately available.

Firefighters say the blaze started in the home’s basement but the exact cause remains under investigation. It appeared there were no functioning smoke alarms.
