Democrats appear stunned and aghast that New Jersey Rep. Jeff Van Drew will reportedly switch from Democrat to Republican because of the Democrats’ impeachment circus (“Rep. Jeff Van Drew, N.J. Democrat, plans to become a Republican,” Web, Dec. 14). I am stunned and aghast that Van Drew is the only one.

The Democrats are about to impeach a U.S. president because they don’t like him. Officially, their two articles of impeachment are: 1) Abuse of power; and 2) Obstruction of Congress. The latter is better known as executive privilege, and it has been used by previous Democratic and Republican presidents alike without being followed by attempts at impeachment. As for abuse of power, you’ve got to be kidding. Directing the CIA, FBI, Department of Justice and Office of National Intelligence to investigate an opposition presidential candidate and opposition president — now there’s abuse of power. Falsifying FISA applications is another example, as is impeaching a president who has done nothing wrong.

I’d like to think there are more Democratic members of Congress with the moral character to separate themselves from overtly deceptive, Constitution-shredding party leadership, but perhaps I am wrong.
