LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies have shot and killed a man they say fired at them with a handgun as they approached him in East Los Angeles.
The man died at the scene Monday. His name was not immediately released.
Deputies spotted the man at about 5:45 p.m. and recognized him as having a warrant for his arrest, authorities said.
The man pulled a handgun and fired a shot, with deputies returning fire, Lt. Derrick Alfred said.
Deputies chased the man about a block leading to a second shooting, authorities said.
The man was shot several times. A handgun was found near the man, Alfred said.
Other details, including how many deputies opened fire, were not immediately released.
