CALAIS, Vt. (AP) - Community shareholders are planning to buy their local store in the small Vermont town of Calais.

Officials involved with the year-long effort tell the Times Argus that they have received enough pledges to buy the Maple Corner Store from owners Artie and Nancy Toulis.

A “Pass the Torch” celebration is being held at the Maple Corner Community Center on Saturday from 4 pm. to 7 p.m. The event includes live music by the Larkspurs and a final bidding on a silent auction to raise more funds for the project. Further shares in the store will fund additional needs such as an expanded septic system and new kitchen equipment.
