PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - State lawmakers are meeting to hear a report on the budget and review plans to address overspending by two agencies.

A subcommittee for the House Finance Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday afternoon at the Statehouse to hear a fiscal 2020 budget report for the first quarter and review corrective action plans for the Department of Children, Youth and Families and Office of Veterans Services.

A previous budget update revealed projected overspending by four agencies, particularly DCYF and veterans services, according to The Providence Journal.

DCYF was on pace to overspend its budget by $22 million and veterans services by $3 million, at the end of the first quarter.

DCYF is over budget because it has not been able to move children in state care into less expensive settings, such as foster care, according to state budget officials.

Maintenance at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol, Rhode Island is also costing more than expected.

The meeting will be broadcast on Capitol Television and streamed online.
