BRENTWOOD, N.H. (AP) - A Massachusetts woman was been sentenced to a year without a driver’s license and a $500 fine for driving while intoxicated in an accident in which she struck and killed a man in New Hampshire.

Prosecutors said a lack of evidence prevented them from making a case for negligent homicide charges against Dawn Marie Barcellona, 58, of Salisbury.

Barcellona has been barred from driving and her vehicle has been impounded since the October 2018 crash in Seabrook. She apologized in court Monday to the family of Andrew Dobson.

Dobson had left his parents’home and had gone out for cigarettes when he was struck.

Earlier this year, prosecutors said the state police collision analysis and reconstruction unit was not sent to the crash scene. That meant that prosecutors didn’t know information such as Barcellona’s speed or exactly where Dobson was struck. Police and witnesses found Barcellona, her car and Dobson on the New Hampshire side of the border. But another witness said Dobson’s shoe was on the Massachusetts side.
