MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) - A city on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is honoring a professor who grew up in the community and has gained acclaim as an expert on race in America.

WLOX-TV reports a standing-room-only crowd attended a ceremony Saturday where Moss Point officials presented a key to the city to Eddie S. Glaude Jr.

The Moss Point native is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor and chairman of African American Studies at Princeton University



Glaude also has written eight books and writes a column for Time magazine. He appears regularly on MSNBC.

Glaude earned a bachelor’s degree at Morehouse College, a master’s degree in African American studies at Temple University and a doctorate in religion from Princeton University.

He said it was “amazing to be celebrated by my hometown.”
