BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts state police say a trooper has been injured after a vehicle slammed into his cruiser at a highway construction zone.

Authorities say the cruiser was hit from behind at 2:50 a.m. Friday on the southbound side of Interstate 93 in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood.

The unidentified trooper was in traffic stopped at the work zone. He suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Officials say the driver of the vehicle that struck the cruiser was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Both cars were heavily damaged.

State police are investigating.
