TILTON, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire county sheriff has waived his arraignment and pleaded not guilty to drunken driving charges.

WMUR-TV reports the not guilty pleas were entered Monday in Franklin District Court for 58-year-old Merrimack County Sheriff Scott Hilliard.

Police in Tilton said a caller reported seeing an erratic driver on Aug. 9. Hilliard was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving while intoxicated, and having an open container with alcohol.

Hilliard was chief of Northfield police before he was elected Merrimack County sheriff in 2006. His term is up next year.
