Kim Kardashian West is hoping to put howls of cultural appropriation behind her by changing the name of her shapewear line from “Kimono” to “SKIMS.”
The entrepreneur/reality star faced social media backlash in June after introducing her “shape-enhancing garments,” but a new name was revealed on Monday.
“Follow @skims! Launching September 10 #ShowYourSkims http://SKIMS.COM,” she tweeted nearly 62 million Twitter followers.
The product is billed as “the culmination of Kim’s personal experience with shapewear and is fueled by her passion to create truly considered and highly technical solutions for everybody. Whether the desire is to enhance, smooth, lift or sculpt, SKIMS provides superior options for all shapes and tones.”
“I am always listening, learning and growing,” she tweeted in response to critics, particularly those from Japan, in July. “I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me. When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind.”
Sizes for the garments will range from XXS to 5XL.
