TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police say an officer spotted a homemade explosive device in a vehicle during a traffic stop in a supermarket parking lot Saturday, forcing the closure of several businesses as the bomb squad removed the device.
Police say neither person in the vehicle owned it so neither was immediately arrested in connection with the device but that the passenger was arrested on suspicion of drugs and weapons crimes because he allegedly had a gun and methamphetamine in his possession.
Sgt. Pete Dugan said the driver complied with a command from the officer who spotted the device to get out of the vehicle to be detained but that the passenger fought the officer before he was detained.
No identities were released.
