TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The decline in enrollment at Arizona’s second-largest school district has slowed, with the district losing the fewest number of students in five years.

The Arizona Daily Star reported Thursday that the Tucson Unified School District has lost 270 students this year, dropping total enrollment to about 45,300 students.

The district recorded losing 1,272 students in its 40-day enrollment count in 2018.

Schools take count of students on the 10th, 40th and 100th day of each school year.

The district’s enrollment has declined by 26% since 2001. It recorded about 59,270 students that year.
