NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Authorities in Virginia say three people were wounded, including an officer and a civilian, when a slaying suspect opened-fire on law enforcement this weekend.

Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew told news outlets Saturday that officers had been searching for a suspect in a domestic-related homicide which led them to an apartment complex.

Drew says the suspect then came outside and began firing at police. Officers returned fire and one was shot, as well as the suspect and a third person Drew says was a civilian.

All three were brought to a hospital. Drew says the officer is expected to recover, the suspect underwent surgery and the civilian was in serious condition following the shooting.
