LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Glider pilots from around the country congregated in Logan this week for some special training.
The Herald Journal reports the pilots were in town starting Friday to take advantage of the unique conditions spawned by the area’s shape and climate.
The Mountain Soaring Camp brings together pilots of gliders, which are made of fiberglass and carbon fiber. Gliders resemble small airplanes and many typically don’t have engines.
Pilots take classes and practice flying in the area.
Kim Hall, a sponsor of the camp, says Logan’s cooler temperatures and mountains create a more technical environment that is good for the pilots’ training.
Organizers say Logan is considered a world-class soaring site.
