EASTON, Maine (AP) - Police say a Maine man on a motorcycle has died after colliding with a minivan.

Maine State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Clark says 62-year-old Vance Smith was riding a motorcycle on Route 10 in Easton when the crash occurred.

Clark says Smith was passing another vehicle that was making a right onto Richardson Road and couldn’t avoid the collision.

Police say Smith, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene in Easton, which is located along the U.S.-Canada border near Presque Isle. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety says 16 people have died this year in motorcycle crashes.
