PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - One Mississippi Gulf Coast city is giving dogs the freedom to romp on part of its beach without a leash.

The Pascagoula City Council recently voted to allow dogs off leash on a multiblock stretch of its beach.

Owners must have direct supervision of their dogs at all times, and the city is increasing fines for failing to pick up dog waste.

Dogs must remain leashed on other areas of the beach, as well as on the boardwalk on the beach’s northern edge.

The city already allowed dogs to roam off their leashes in areas of two other parks.
