LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police say a 14-year-old girl was killed and her 12-year-old sister was hospitalized in grave condition after they were struck by a big rig while they walked to school in Los Angeles.

Officials say the girls were hit around 8 a.m. Thursday in a downtown neighborhood.

Both victims were rushed to a hospital, where one of them later died.

Police say the driver of the big rig remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. He was not arrested.
