CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - An inmate at a Virginia women’s prison is alleging that the state Department of Corrections has put her life at risk by mismanaging her medication.

Lawyers for Margie Ryder say she’s had repeated emergency hospitalizations due to the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women’s failure to correctly manage medication she takes for terminal pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that an emergency motion says her survival is dependent on the correct use of a medication continuously delivered to her heart with a pump.

Ryder was convicted of embezzlement. She is due to be released Oct. 15.

The motion asks the court to order the DOC to develop and implement a plan to safely administer Ryder’s medication.

A Department of Corrections spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
