CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Southeast Missouri State University is considering a major upgrade to Houck Stadium on the Cape Girardeau campus.

Athletics director Brady Barke said Thursday no final plans have been made. But he says the university is contemplating a capital improvements campaign. The cost is estimated at $20 million but Barke says that number also is not final.

The Southeast Missourian reports the university has never before conducted a capital fundraising for athletics. The fundraising also would seek money for other improvements to athletic facilities.

The university is listening to presentations from architectural and engineering firms.

Barke says Houck Stadium is nearly 90 years old and needs major upgrades. Barke says even if the fundraising begins, construction could be several years away.
