INDIANA, Pa. (AP) - Gas fumes caused by construction work at a western Pennsylvania rehabilitation facility sent 12 people to hospitals for treatment of nausea and other minor health issues.
Emergency responders evacuated the Pennsylvania Adult and Teen Challenge drug and alcohol addiction center in Indiana on Thursday while the building was aired out. But patients and staff were later allowed to return.
Officials say construction crews were running a chop saw and using gasoline in an area that apparently did not have enough ventilation. They say the investigation is continuing.
Authorities say none of the injuries appeared to be serious. Some people reported nausea, chest pain and headaches.
