CINCINNATI (AP) - Police say a Cincinnati highway that follows the Ohio River was temporarily closed by a landslide two days after the city council approved funding to address that problem, which was become increasingly common there.

The landslide was reported Friday morning on the busy Columbia Parkway, which connects Cincinnati’s eastern neighborhoods and suburbs with downtown.

The mayor has said fixing the landslide issue along the parkway will cost $17 million and shut down parts of the road over the next two years.

The city council on Wednesday approved a plan to pay for that, partly using $9.4 million initially set aside for a new police facility.

The construction work to stabilize the ground along the parkway is expected to begin this summer.
